We provide support to families of our deceased members (active and retiree’s) by offering a death benefit. We take pride in a quick response to a death notification and providing the family with funds to immediately assist with funerals, wakes, flowers or other costs incurred at the time of death.
Firefighters face many dangers carrying out their duties. Cancer is the leading cause of death of our members. According to a 2013 National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) STUDY, firefighters have a 9% higher risk of being diagnosed with cancer and a 14% higher risk of dying from cancer than the general public.
The Arlington Firefighters Relief Association (AFRA) has been around in one form or another since 1891. The AFRA was
incorporated in 1947.
It was established to assist current and former members of the Arlington MA Fire Department that may have been injured while performing their duties. The association continues to this day to support the mission and members of the Arlington MA Fire Department.
